A post-LeBron James reconstruct was always inevitable in Northeast Ohio, and the Cavs have obviously accepted that destiny. Through four in-season trades, they restocked their cupboards with nine incoming draft selections, including a pair of future firsts.
But before heading down reclamation road, 30-year-old Kevin Love was first given a four-year by Cleveland. That rate not only looks inflated due to deficiencies that are defensive and his health history, but it could also lead the Cavs to a few wins. He is still capable of scoring or rebounding at an pace.
If the thought was to lean on the leadership then reverse him for rebuilding tools of Love, the strategy has been doomed from the start.
“You are not getting an advantage for him under some circumstances,” a Western Conference executive told Bleacher Report’s Ken Berger earlier this season.
Speaking of resources, the group underwhelms from every angle. Collin Sexton is intriguing, but his 41.1 field-goal percent and 15.6 help percentage highlight his limitations. Cedi Osman works as a bit, but likely nothing more. The Cavs may be at least a couple drafts from forming their next foundation.
