St Helens 48-6 Huddersfield Giants: Saints complete regular season unbeaten at home

St Helens scored 24 points as they wrapped up their residence Super League campaign with a win on Huddersfield in style at the Totally Wicked Stadium.
In-form prop Luke Thompson acquired a brace while Lachlan Coote had a night with the boot, kicking eight goals in as many attempts.
The success guaranteed without dropping a match on home soil, an record which can give them confidence before the play-offs the season was finished by the League Leaders Shield winners.
The last time they realized such a feat was in 2002 when Saints proceeded to win the Grand Final. But Huddersfield remain at risk of dropping to the Championship.
Saints were involved from the lowest scoring game in Super League history – a triumph over Castleford.
But it required the side of Justin Holbrook 3 minutes to transcend that score, Thompson after a good pass against his fellow racing to the tryline prop Alex Walmsley. Coote, playing to Warrington because the Challenge Cup defeat for the first time last month, included the conversion.
Jonny Lomax Dominic Peyroux had a clear run to the try line after a quarter of an hour. Coote again kicked on off the extras.
It had been Coote who helped lay the stage for Saints’ third attempt with a 40-20 kick. Lomax, Coote and james Roby united to get Regan Grace in.
With three minutes of this first half remaining, a break out of Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook divide the Huddersfield defence wide open and his pass Morgan Knowles off for a try that Coot goaled to get a 24-0 period lead which didn’t flatter the house side.
The visitors got off the mark within three minutes of the restart after Martin Lawrence barged to get a try and the conversion was added by Oliver Russell with the half-time team discussion in Huddersfield trainer Simon Woolford obviously with had the desired effect.
Coote effective and the attempt was to give only temporary respite to the Giants as Saints scored their fifth try in the 54th minute, Kyle Amor.
Thompson maintained his second try before Lomax added Saints’ seventh. Coote transformed as Huddersfield completed well beaten.
The scoring was finished by tommy Makinson after shooting a pass that was from Grace Coote again adding the extras, in the dying moments.
