Sami Yusuf’s latest discovery, Hesham Abdul Wahab, releases new album Qaddam Badha
The British singer/songwriter Sami Yusuf’s record label Andante Records has added a new artist to its stable: the Indian singer Hesham Abdul Wahab, who brings together the haunting sounds of Middle Eastern and traditional South Asian instruments in his newly released album Qadam Badha (Step Forward). The 10 songs, in Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, Malayalam and English, were composed in collaboration with Yusuf and produced in Dubai and India, and draw from the core of devotional music. They feature the crisp rhythms of the santur (hammered dulcimer), the sitar (a stringed instrument), daf (frame drum) and darbuka (goblet drum). Songs of the Way is the title of the sixth album by young British-Muslim singer, songwriter and composer Sami Yusuf, released on January 1, 2015. His newly-released album features 12 audio tracks with a traditional Iranian and Islamic theme. The sophisticated, poetry-like lyrics have been written by Seyyed Hossein Nasr, an Iranian University Professor of Islamic studies at George Washington University.
